MARTABE: Journal of Community Development and Empowerment is a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to publishing high-quality articles on community service, community empowerment, and sustainable community development. The name MARTABE is derived from the Batak philosophy Marsipature Hutana Be, which means building one's homeland together. This philosophy reflects the values of collaboration, mutual cooperation, and community empowerment as essential foundations for improving people's quality of life and promoting social well-being.
As societies continue to evolve in response to rapid social, economic, technological, and environmental changes, there is an increasing need for innovative, evidence-based solutions that can be directly implemented to address community challenges. Universities play a strategic role in transforming research outcomes into practical community engagement programs that generate meaningful and sustainable impacts. Therefore, a credible scientific publication platform is essential for documenting, disseminating, and promoting best practices, innovations, and lessons learned from community service and empowerment initiatives.
MARTABE serves as an academic platform that connects academics, researchers, practitioners, government institutions, non-governmental organizations, community organizations, and other stakeholders in sharing experiences, innovative approaches, and the outcomes of community-based development programs. The journal encourages the dissemination of community engagement activities that promote capacity building, participatory development, social innovation, knowledge transfer, and the utilization of local resources to foster self-reliant, productive, and resilient communities. The journal welcomes original articles that demonstrate practical applications of science, technology, education, health, economics, agriculture, environmental sustainability, engineering, and other relevant disciplines in addressing community needs. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches that strengthen collaboration among universities, communities, industry, and government in achieving sustainable development. Through a rigorous and objective peer-review process, MARTABE: Journal of Community Development and Empowerment is committed to maintaining high standards of scholarly publication while promoting impactful community engagement and sustainable social transformation. The journal aspires to become a leading international reference for community development and empowerment initiatives and to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by strengthening the role of higher education institutions in community service and societal development.
